Could somebody please tell me the best way to determine whether a Louis Vuitton Damier Alma bag is authentic?

This is pretty hard since many fakes are of 99.9% quality (aka ‘7 star replica’). Fake almas are one of the most copied so watch out. Here are a few ways to find out:

1. First things first… check that the monogram is correct. Fakers often miss out a bit, or incorrectly align them, etc.
2. Check the insides of the bag (seams, stitching, color, ripples) – fraudsters frequently miss out the details that you are unlikely to notice.
3. For some strange reason, fake manufacturers haven’t noticed that real bags NEVER come with those paper tags (esp. with plastic string).
3. Check the serial number. If it doesn’t have one = super fake. If it has one, phone up LV to check authenticity, but remember that they might use a real serial for hundreads of bags, so hopefully that serial would be reported to LV.
4. ASK the seller where it came from! You should really only buy LV bags from LV boutiques, but if your buying a preowned one on ebay, make sure its form a mypoupette (not sure about spelling, soz) approved seller – this reduces the chances of it being a fake.
5. Some fake bags are even sold with very realistic LV reciepts (perfect copies or the original) and carrying bags, so don’t just think that its real just because it comes with these.
6. Check the threads and leather skin. They should be thick and very high quality. Fake bags often have slight faults with the pattern of the leather when looked at with brightness/shimmer. The thread sewing should also be totally flawless (no exposed thread endings, etc). Because the thread and leather LV uses is manufactured in house, and very hard to find from suppliers, fake LV bag manufacturers usually can’t match LV quality.

Remember that LV bags are always perfect and flawlessly manufactured. When you carry an LV bag, everybody will look at it, and if there is ever a slight fault everyone will know that its a fake, and once you realize that you will wish you were never born because of the embarrassment!

Why don’t you just get one from a high street LV boutique? Getting used or fake ones don’t last as long, whereas new LV bags might be expensive but they last for a long time and sometimes look better with age, which is why I don’t understand why people get fake LV bags.

The actual manufacturers of fake LV bags don’t lie about their illegal bags. It’s the sellers of the fake LV bags that lie (unless its straight from the manufacturer). Also I’m not sure if LV will give back your bag if they establish that its fake.
